Charlotte Lawing (Martin **) VIEW PROFILE

Charlotte Lawing (Martin **)

Charlotte Lawing Martin died at her home on Monday, July 8, 2013 at about 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon with all three of her sisters, along with all three of her children with her.  She was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease sixteen years ago.

She and her husband, Jerry Martin (class of 1960) were in staff positions at Camp Lurecrest for several years, and that job allowed Charlotte to influence the lives of many, many young folks during their camp weeks during the summer.  Many of those young folks have matured, married, and now have children.  They still maintain contact with Charlotte and Jerry.  Her Christian influence has been far-reaching in the lives of many individuals.

Charlotte and I have known each other since we were very little girls.  We were church friends.  My family moved away for six years, and when we returned, my contact with Charlotte resumed at Harding.

I have enjoyed visiting Charlotte and Jerry as often as possible over the last two or three years since her illness was changing her so rapidly.  She has been such a blessing and joy to me during the entire time.  Never once did she complain or grumble about her situation.  I will always consider her to be an angel among us.  I don't think that she ever realized how far-reaching her influence on others was.

It was a joy just to know and love her.

After reading this announcement I have shed my tears of sadness for her family and friends and tears of joy that she is now in the presence of the Lord that she loved so much and led so many others to bring into their lives.  She was a true child of GOD.

When I first started at Harding in the eighth grade she was the first person to really welcome me and from that day on I considered her to be my true friend.  To this day I still think she was the sweetest person I have ever known.  Since finding out about her illness, Charlotte and Jerry have kept a 'top spot' on my prayer list.  Her life on earth may be over but she will forever be in the hearts of all that ever knew her.

Jerry, I pray for you and all of Charlotte's family and I know each of you have your special memories that will always bring a smile to your face when you think of Charlotte.

Prayers and love to you....Beth Tucker

Charlotte and I never crossed paths after graduating, but to this day, I still carry fond memories of her.....always friendly, caring, with a beautiful smile, just like her profile photo taken from the annual.

My prayers go out to all her family as they carry her in each of their heart until they are reunited again on the other side of this life.

So sorry to hear about Charlotte.  She was so sweet, always nice and friendly to everyone, a good, good person.  Looking back in my annual at her note, she finished with God Bless You!  We know where she is and pray for her family as they go through this trying time.

I met Charlotte in 1949 at Seversville in the first grade.  From the very first day I ever observed her, Charlotte, was like the picture perfect ideal for the American girl.  She had it all together and never appeared to have to juggle to keep it that way.  I always felt that she was able to see through any sort of subterfuge or guile.  I was not in just a little way awed  by her, a boy knew or should have known that this was a girl that you just did not want to "mess up" or play tihe fool in front of.  In a way I almost felt she was too good to be real, but she was real.  A real down to earth living doll, and Jerry Martin was the lucky guy that got chosen to receive the gift of her everlasting love and life.

Jerry, I do not know if you remember me, we played many baseball games on opposing teams but my heart goes out to you.  I remember that my daughter Allyson met you and Charlotte at her friend Grace Herrin's home sometime in the 1990's. She and Charlotte shared that I had attended school with her.  I am pleased to know that you and Chalotte had such a wonderful marriage and family life.  Allyson was killed in 2007 and it has been a living hell ever since due to the circumstances.  May G-D bless and keep you Jerry within his boundless  protection and unlimited gifts of love.

What wonderful tributes to Charlotte -- My prayer would be to be remembered as serving and loving The Lord Jesus as Charlotte has done.
