Mary Anne was enthused about our upcoming reunion.  She was one of the hardest working committee persons, as she was so knowledgeable about different websites, and means of finding classmates.  She had done a tremendous amount of work prior to learning that her cancer had returned.  Her sweet spirit and helpfulness to others will certainly be missed.  She was quite an inspiration to all of us on the committee.

I can't believe it!  Mary Ann emailed me about the reunion earlier in the summer.  I was so looking forward to seeing her again.  We started first grade together at Wesley Heights and went all the way through 12 together.  I am so sad that she won't be at the reunion

Mary Anne and I were second-generation friends.  Her mother and mine were best friends and worked many years together.  Our families vacationed together.  Mary Anne and I went to Bowery Boys movies in downtown Charlotte on Saturdays.  She was bored and I loved it but she humored me and fought to stay awake in them.  We also went to see Elvis at the Carolina Theatre.  She scolded me for laughing at the way the girls were carrying on over him.  (I was a Pat Boone fan.)

We drifted apart over the years after graduation but recently re-connected through her mother whom I have always been close to.  After losing Jacque Smith (Linderman) a few years back, I was looking forward to my renewed friendship with Mary Anne.  Sadly, it did not last long enough.

Mary Anne was always so very upbeat through many physical trials, so optimistic and full of the faith we grew up in at the same Baptist church.  Her musical talent was a joy to her during these difficult years and she nurtured a beautiful family.

Her memory will always be a precious one to me.

I am devastated!  Mary Anne called me a couple of times about the Reunion and we had a wonderful time talking and remembering our days at Wesley Heights Elementary School and Harding High.  I asked her if she was still playing the flute.  She was very cheerful and gave no indication that she was in bad health.  I was looking forward to seeing her at the Reunion.  I miss her!  Sincerely, Patsy Outen James

Memories of Mary Ann include a dear, softspoken, very musically talented young woman.  She was always willing to go the extra mile in reaching out to others who needed her.  What a wonderful trait to possess.  You are sorely missed my friend.
