Linda Carter Griffin

After graduating from HHS in June 1961, I married Larry Griffin July, 1961. He purchased and began building a family business, Griffin Brothers Tire Sales. I was employed at the Mecklenburg County Tax Supervisor’s office for one year.

We welcomed our first child, Larry Griffin, Jr on September 24, 1962. I became a full time mom and homemaker. After moving to Huntersville, NC, we were blessed with our second son, Michael, on July 18, 1965.

Life was busy with the usual family happenings. We were active in school, church, scouts, and sports activities. After seven years we moved to the Pine Island community where the family added swimming, golf and tennis to our activities.

Our next door neighbor dubbed me “Betty Crocker,” a title I enjoyed as I developed a love and expertise of cooking, gardening, and entertaining.

The family business grew along with the boys. I stayed busy with school activities and carrying the boys to golf and tennis matches. I also began taking classes at CPCC.

Although the marriage dissolved after 22 years, the friendship remained. We continue to celebrate family birthdays and holidays together.

After both guys graduated from West Mecklenburg High School, Larry Jr continued his studies at UNC Charlotte earning a BS in Business. Mike finished at UNC Chapel Hill with a BS in Business.

I earned an Associate Arts Degree from Central Piedmont Community College and a
Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from UNC Charlotte.
After school, I developed an interest in the holistic health field. I completed Level 11 training as a Healing Touch Practitioner and Level 11 Reiki training. I’m also Nationally Certified in Swedish Massage and Body Work and a Licensed Massage Therapist.

Through the years I’ve worked as a counselor at Family Reproductive Health Services in Charlotte. I’ve also volunteered at Masters in Nutrition program at the North Carolina Home Extension Service as well as docent at the Mint Museum. I’ve been fortunate to
have traveled internationally with several school groups.


I consider my children my proudest achievement in life. They have joined their father in the original business as well as expanded into property development and landfill management.

I have also been blessed with six wonderful, healthy grandchildren. Larry Jr is married to Ginger Griffin. My oldest granddaughter is Leah, 20, a rising junior at UNC Chapel Hill, just promoted to the varsity cheerleading squad. Blair,18, is a freshman at UNC Wilmington. Twins, Haley and Trey, 13, are in the eighth grade at Lake Norman Charter School.

Mike is married to Andrea Griffin. They have a son, Alex, almost 9 and Carrie 6. Alex is in third grade and Carrie attends first grade at the Community School of Davidson, NC.

For the last thirteen years I have resided in Cornelius, NC. I continue to work with the family wearing many different hats. My hobbies still include cooking, gardening, metaphysical studies, environmental issues, as well as the holistic health field.
